Pet Bird Care - What Cage to Get

The cage will house your pet bird. Every bird lover aspires to give its pet only the best habitat. So do you! In the choice of bird cage for proper pet bird care, foremost in your requirements is for the health and safety of your pet. What considerations should you take to ensure getting the best cage for your pet?

What type of pet bird do you have? Your pet bird will need enough space to move around its cage.So if you have a long tailed bird, get a wide cage so that it can freely move about.

Some birds scale the sides of their cages. You can get a higher cage for these types. In the choice of your bird cage, select one where your bird can fly from one side to the other, one that will ensure uncontrolled movement for your bird.

You do not necessarily have to buy the biggest cage available. Always consider the type of bird you have. Young birds will feel lost in a big cage. Get a smaller one for it; one which he can easily learn where the food tray and drinking cup is located. Plan on getting a bigger one as it grows and matures. These considerations are part of proper pet bird care.

Note the cage bars. How are the bars spaced out? Is there a wire mesh? Compare the size of your pet's head to the size of the bars and mesh. Is it able to stick its head out? Some birds are able to stick their heads out in one space and put it in the next space. Can it actually fit through the bar spaces? The idea is for you to be able to keep your pet inside the cage. You do not want it to be able to bolt out and fly away.

After considering the cage size and space bars, take into account the location of the cage trays. Can you easily pull it out for cleaning without the bird flying out? How deep is the tray? Is it deep enough to prevent too much food being scattered around the tray? A built-in apron will be nice to have in the cage. This will make cleaning less of a task for you.

Look for the location of the cage cups. Are they accessible for changing or are they situated too far inside the cage? Can you reach it using the main door only? Are the cage cups bolted to the cage? This is very important for those with big birds. These types can easily topple the cage cups. This will mean more work and clean up chores for you. All these considerations have to be weighed properly to ensure proper pet bird care. The bird lover would only want the best for his pet bird!
