Dietary Pet Bird Care

Pet bird care can seem like the simplest thing, which people often see only as the process of tossing feed in a bowl and giving them some water to drink. That is hardly the case, especially if you want your pet bird to be at tiptop condition. Some diets give you the opportunity to explore how to make your pet bird as healthy as possible.

The most preferred food for dietary pet bird care has often been bird seed. However, it has lost popularity amongst people who raise birds because it is often in wanting of nutrients. Bird seed can be served with Millet, safflower, and sunflower seeds. However, take care not to overfeed your pet bird sunflower seeds because the high-fat content encourages obesity among parrots with a sunflower seed-only diet.

However, those who want to give their pets the best of pet bird care, it is important to remember that feeding them seeds may not be able to simulate how they would eat had they been in the wild. For parrots, for instance, brown rice and beans may offer a more natural option for feeds. These can be left in cages for periods of time without fear of spoilage.

Newer advances in pet bird care have led to the formulation of pellet feeds, which act like multivitamins for birds. Meant to simulate the full catalogue of nutrients that birds would require to stay healthy, there is growing fear that birds may end up fatigued by the bland flavour of pellets. Others continue to advocate as close-to-natural feeds for birds as possible.

As such, it is easy to see that for pet bird care to truly have a positive impact, it is important to mix the variety of food items that can comprise a bird's diet. Give your pet bird the option of seeds or pellets each day by separating the containers for each type of feed. Many pet owners are surprised how birds may give these two dietary options equal opportunities to be eaten.

In addition to pellets and bird seed, you can include in your pet bird's diet dried fruits, nuts, beans, and brown rice. Avoid spoilage by putting these perishable items in the cage for only an hour. Refrain from serving food that was already left in the cage previously, even if you refrigerate it. This can lead to food containing harmful bacteria that can cause mortal damage to your pet bird. Create a morning-and-evening feeding schedule when you can feed your pet fresh food and remove it shortly afterwards to avoid wastage.

Should you want to simplify pet bird care by serving your bird the same food that you eat for dinner, just take extra care not to feed them particular food that can cause them harm, including the avocado.
